Statutory Sick Pay just isn't enough... help!

Hi, my husband is employed and has been for nearly three years with the same company. He has just snapped his shin and is not allowed to weight bear for at least six weeks and then only partially weight bear for another six weeks.

His boss will only pay the basic SSP of £79 per week which is not tax/NIC exempt. This is just not enough for us to live on. I work full time but don't earn much but the mortgage is in my name only, as is the Council tax etc... We get WTC for one child.

Are we entitled to ANY help at all as we can't live on £1300 a month with mortgage/bills/council tax/petrol/food etc.... I am very worried that I'll have to take out a loan which I really don't want to have to do. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you xx

Perhaps you could list your outgoing on the DFW board, there's some experienced people on there who can help you cut your bills drastically.

You say that the council tax is in your name only......by law, doesn't it have to be in both of your names if your OH is living wth you as well? Just thought I'd point it out in case you aren't aware.

Why should it be in two names 'by law'?
I have my adult son living with me but his name has never been on the council tax bill, nor was my daughters when she was here.

    Your tax credits are benefits.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

can your son not pay more board for this short time when your husband is on SSP to help out the family and keep a roof over his head?

Surely, he'd have to be named so that you're paying the correct amount of council tax? (single person gives you 25% discount) Children aren't counted for council tax.

no you don't have to be named. i'm not named on our council tax bill.
it is sent out with a charge off 100% of the council taax, and then you apply for a reduction of 25% as a single occupier.
they dont assume everyone lives alone unless theyre told differently.........they assume you DON'T live alone unless you tell them.
