homemade leek and potato soup with crusty bread is fairly cheap, if it's blitzed smooth, the kids won't know what's in it. Some sort of traybake for dessert - flapjacks or brownies
Games, you could do apple bobbing (OK, I know that's traditionally halloween but it's only a few days after); charades; a quiz; pass the matchbox/balloon/orange/banana <---maybe this is one for the adults later on:rotfl:Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

To be honest this sounds like the sort of food people will want at a fireworks party, you might want to add beans and grated cheese to go with the jackets, and probably do enough so the kids could have jackets (do some smaller ones) and enough hot dogs for the adults too!
We went to a similar party last year and they did sausages, buns, onions, beans, grated cheese and jackets, it all went down really well.
Could you ask some of the guests to make puddings / biscuits / cakes (something simple for afters)?
Games - the fireworks will be the main event, so you probably don't need too many! How about pin the sparkle on the sparkeler, also marshmallow bobbing (thread marshmallows on to strings, knot inbetween so you can have a few on each string, then hang them from the washing line... Also like the apple bobbing suggestion. Do you have giant jenga or know anyone who does?
Oooh, I want to have a party now!! (OH says no parties until we've done up the house ready for baby!).0 -
Thread doughnuts on string about 6 inches apart and string them from 2 posts / trees - people have to kneel underneath each doughnut and eat it without using their hands

jam doughnuts - try eating them without licking your lips! stupid but funny to watch
quiz - men v women - always gets a bit tacticalMFW 1310 -
Iceland are doing several £1 stuff..
pizzas,
hotdogs - 2 x cans of 6, i think,,
frozen desserts ..
jacket spuds and a chilli / stew etc, may well be cheapest bulk-cook option!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

We do this every year too and just go with hotdogs and crisps. We ask every family who comes to take a box of fireworks no matter what the size as they cost a fortune but if you've a few families coming then it makes a great display.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0
