Have you applied for a maintenance loan?
    Got a PT job?
    Student Overdraft?
Your university may be willing to give you some money through their hardship fund.

Is there a cheaper way to travel to your course?

Are you saying that you were paid a bursary when you were having the year out of college? Did you tell them that you weren't at university that year?
