You should uninstall the Ask toolbar as it is malware (from the control panel).

TICK and FIX in the log:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: avgrsstarter - avgrsstx.dll (file missing)

Replace AVG with avira and malwarebytes:
Uninstall AVG and remove any remainders on the computer with http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus
Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 - FileHippo.com UPDATE tab, CHECK FOR UPDATES before every scan (post a quick scan log if you want us to check your pc is infection free).

If that means in the add/remove progs, then it isnt there. or it isnt showing.. What do I do ?
  • You're not the first person to say that although it should be in control panel. I'm hoping others can tell us so in the meanwhile just continue with the other steps.

Also what was the reason you ran the hijackthis log?

I have another thread in here somewhere about a new weird noise on the laptop. Its like a modem trying to dial up but I havent got one, its disabled. I am not having any operating problems, just was reading through the stickys in this thread - it says to do this - and thought I'd try it :)

Bearing mind what was saidin the Weird Sound thread you were advised to run Malwarebytes . suggest you do this first as Rik would normally suggest
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ma..._anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan

    reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin)

I've run Spybot and Malware and they are all finding no threats. Have downloaded Avira as well. Will go and look at the Ask remover now, thanks.

You've also got Rapport "security" software on there, probably suggested by your online bank. This is utter junk and of questionable pedigree - far safer for you to remove it and stick with avira/mbam/spybot's passive protection(immunise feature).

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Do you have one of these?

    BT Voyager 105 ADSL Modem

Too much security software running, maybe replace avg/rapport/superantispyware with avast and malwarebytes if it's slow?

how much ram do you have, and why are you posting the log?

I dont know how to find out about RAM ? But I know this laptop has 94% free space because I recently defragged it. I posted the log because that's what you advise people to do in here when they have a problem..
The laptop isnt slow but I am still getting a dialup sound out of this and it shouldnt be possible because I've disabled the modem and am on a wireless rouer. No BT modems anywhere, mine is a Motorola. :)
I've got rid of the spyware but not the rapport, because the bank told me to use it and I'm scared not to ! I downloaded Aviva and I have Malwarebytes.TY!
