barclaycard trouble

hi folks,

June 28th 2010 my direct debit payment got returned due to insufficient funds
( I realised the following day and rang and paid it over the phone on my debit card)

So now they said everything will be ok for the following month i:e July for the direct debit to come out

End of July/August actually away on holiday abroad, I get numerous phone calls so when I actually answer one of them its Barclaycard saying I have not paid??
So I am like well the direct debit was supposed to come out!! So I paid again over the phone by debit card. They said the bank had refused payment (my bank)

So set up another direct debit but they advised me to pay by phone again for the end of August payment, so I did no problems after arguing with the lady this is what I was told to do she was not having any off it at the time but in the end made the payment

I have access to my credit file and whilst looking at it I have noticed that I have a late payment on it for the month of July

I have rang Barclaycard numerous times and spent many a time asking for them to rectify it and they are adamant that my own bank refused the payment, so I actually spoke with my bank numerous times (halifax) and they are adamant that the last payment requested was the June 28th payment and not anymore so who is it coming down too.

I have since been in the Halifax in person and seen it on the screen that the last payment requested was for June 28th so they have typed me a letter stating this and have sent it too barclaycard and hopefully they can now rectify my credit file notification

anyone else had troubles like this
wish i didnt have a life yrs ago!! i wouldnt have been this poor

Thats why I never pay by direct debit. Payday of every month, I sit down on my internet banking and manually pay every bill. Not had any bounced payments in years.

Have found the level of communication from Barclaycard awful myself in dealing with them twice now. I would sudgest you put it in writing to them also sending a copy to your own bank.

Had a simal problem last month, though I had initiated the debit online at the Barclacard website. Everything looked as if it went through. However I checked back a week leter and the payment had not gone through. Barclaycard claimed that my bank must have refused the payment.
I checked with my bank, and no request had been made. At the Barclaycard website transaction record, I could see that payment had been initiated, but that was it. No success or failure was logged. Barclay card insisted that it was my responsibility to check that the funds had been transferred, even though it's pretty clear that their systems were at fault.
Anyway I'll be transferring funds from my bank account to Barclaycard, instead of the other way around. Have also set up email alerts, which tell you that payment is now due, which will also alert my when the payment has cleared.
  • If it helps I had the same problem between Barclaycard in May this year. They claimed I had missed a payment but my bank Santander said they had not received the DD request.

I called up Barclaycard and then conference called from my mobile to Santander as well at the same time. And let them sort it out. The call went something like

Barclaycard - can you tell me when you requested the DD for the xyz statement
Reply - We requested it on the x/x/2010
Santander - have you received that request?
Reply - No we received a request for a DD which barclaycard had themselves cancelled the previous month. The new DD that they setup has a new reference number and does not start untli the day after they claim.
Me - right Barclaycard sort it out ...
Santander - would you like a letter sending to Barclaycard from us ...
    Me - Yes please
Barclaycard - mutter huff puff hung up.

Reminder CHASE IT UP do not let it lie. Because when it happened to me they dropped my limit to the same as the card balance and even though their dispute letter says this will be reinstated its 4 months later and hasnt (I chased it again today). Also when you complain if they agree to the issue tell them that you want the marker removing from the credit account. otherwise it looks bad on your report.

One more thing - during the month concerned did you by chance receive or request a new card ... I think this process breaks all sorts of systems at Barclaycard if it happens on or around billing day.
