Defective Cooker

Bought a cooker at Currys on 15/07/2009. Worked well until last week-end when one of the ovens failed. Have contacted Currys and they say that we will have to pay for the repairs as the 12 month guarantee has run out. Bearing in mind the "Sale of Goods Act" should we have to pay. (Does it come under the heading of "Not of Merchantable Quality")

as it is over 6 months, you have to prove that it is an inherant fault, so have to provide an independent report, which you have to pay for and if it finds in your favour you should get your replaced/repair plus the cost of the report back.
