    :rotfl::rotfl:It looks like a rocket launcher:rotfl::rotfl:

    Plant it and wait and see.

    ;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • As above - pot up in gritty well drained compost, don't plant too deeply just press into the gritty soil, don't over water as the tuber will rot. If you're very, very lucky, you might get a lovely yellowy-orange flower. My sisters Asian FiL gave me this advice a few years ago, I did as he said and poted some chunks of ginger on in the heated greenhouse. I was delighted to see healthy shoots developing, followed a by an obvious flower spike. All was well until I spotted one of my beloved cats snoozing happily on the bench where I'd put the ginger.... Yes, she'd snapped off all the growth and rolled on it, to make it worse. We were moving house not long after, so I didn't have the time to try again!!!

    oh you're really lucky, I'm envious :)

    I managed to grow some years ago, but left it in an unheated porch & the frost got it :( & I've never had any success with it since

    I have some Lemon Grass & a nice little Kaffir Lime on the go, I'd love a ginger plant to complete my trio :wistful smiley:

    The best thing is, it was just sat in an old fruit punnet behind the bin I put my peelings etc in for the compost heap! No water, soil or light!! Gritty soil? I've got some vermiculite (sp?) do I just plant it in that or mix some potting compost in as well? I think I will put it on top of the aquarium with my cactus plenty of light and warmth there.

    Hi

    I would mix a bit of vermiculite into the compost. Over winter you may need to keep it just moist, then water it well in the spring.
