Why not in your name? If it's your property it should be.

There are various reasons for this though. You will need to call them.

Could be anything from meter tampering, squatters, incorrect previous reading...all sorts. The closing reading of a previous owner could be wrong. You may have read the wrong meter (are the meter tails the correct ones for the flat if in a block? So, does the meter move if you put something like a kettle on? does it spin when nothing is on? Could be connected to another flat if so), the previous owner might have given a closing reading for another meter in error.

There could even have been a missing owner in the Supplier's records so you have have their bill added on because they just see you after the last owner they have and the inbetween owner's consumption will automatically bill up.

All things for you to look at.

Thanks for the reply. Company are sending out an engineer to see which meter is mine.

I would suggest you are there when they turn up.

Tracing supplies back to flats can be seen as outside of what they are often sent out to do. However, if you are there you can quiz the engineer and it will help .

These guys are used to all these problems so it's always worthwhile asking them about possible causes.
