Hi all - would be very grateful if anyone could advise me re a phone call I received today.
Caller said that they are aware of "many error messages" on my microsoft operating system and that it was likely to be infected by a virus. The caller then asked me to switch on my computer so that they could guide me through a process to prevent this. Sounds extremely dodgy to me so I declined but they say they are going to call me again tomorrow.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Microsoft would neber ring anyone out of the blue.
do along with the phone call and just pretend you are doing what they ask, then say you havent got a pc once they start asking for dosh. i love these phone calls and like to play along for a while. i just hope i never get caught out though. All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -

Alternatively, don't let the sc[STRIKE]u[/STRIKE]am caller waste your time...0 -
I wish I'd get called by "Microsoft".
It's a scam ... and any other IT company claiming to assist you to get rid of "virusus" or any other errors. A simple question to the scammer is to ask them what your machine name is and IP Address since they should know this in order to track the "errors" that are coming from your machine. Also, how can they link your machine to your telephone number in order to call you to offer assistance.0 -
They are not Microsoft, and they are scamming.
The last ones who called me, I asked them what was the name of my computer, and they couldn't answer.
I also said what they were saying was very interesting but they didn't know what they were talking about.
I normally try and be polite to cold-callers (after all they are just trying to earn a living), but these ones are lying to you and are just scum; it's not even worth being polite to them.0
