We have just done exactly that. Scanner was broken and printer needed colour & B & W cartridges at the same time (plus was getting temperamental) so got a new combined printer/scanner thingy for £60 at currys and it is fantastic

If its got a plug on it then most charity shops can't/won't take them. Sad but true. It breaks my mums heart as the charity shop she works in has to throw away anything electrical they are given as they banned from selling it or giving it away. Compensation culture and H&S - they can't risk it.0
