Disposable Printers ??

With the advent of low cost deals on printers - i.e £25 for a budget Lexmark - are we almost at the stage where the cartridges are worth more than the printers ???.
My wife works at Wilkinsons , and with her staff discount on one of these printers we are not too far from the price of a standalone ink cartridge.
Maybe we will soon be throwing the printer away when the ink runs out !!
Comments please !!

Hi,
Total agreement, I've been buying printers on offer for years now purely for the ink then recycling the new printers on ebay for almost the promo price paid. Ergo ink is usually almost free or only costing a few pounds.

To be honest most people dont bother checking the price of carts before they buy a printer, they will see a good price and buy it then have a heart atttack when they need to replace them, you should always check the price of carts and compatabiles before you buy a printer

Earlier this year people on this forum where buying dell 810s for an incredible £10 each, the cartridge alone is worth more than that and these where decent all in one printer. I bought a couple myself and they have been excellent.0

Hello
New User Here
Printers:-
All I require is a printer that can print monochrome & readable (not high quality)items, just for convenience/file/scribbling on, etc.
No colour or presentation needed.
Any advice greatly appreciated

i bought one of these wilkos printers its a lexmark Z617 and it was about 20 quid.
the isuse is that there is vey little ink in the included carts. I have probably printed no more than 20 pages on draft setting, and its running out.
Now Im on the hunt for replacement carts, and the going rate seems to be around the 15 quid mark. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I also bought a Lexmark Z617 - from ASDA - also cost twenty quid.
You could perhaps donate it to your local charity shop (maybe they'll get a fiver for it) once the cartridge is finished.
Probably not a good idea just to throw it away, as the cheapest way to deal with e-waste is to ship it to China/Bangladesh/India. Here a ten year old kid will then extract the gold plate or other precious metals, using a bunsen burner. The carcass will then be chucked in a local landfill, where it will be further re-cycled by folks living at the landfill.
Health and safety is not an issue - cyanide compounds, pcb's etc. - no worries.0 -
