Very poor Virgin Media 'on demand' service

Am I the only one who can count on, as a matter of sickening regularity, having any OD programme I view interrupted with the announcement 'On Demand is temporarily unavailable' and told to quote some technical problem reference number (take your pick from a choice of umpteen) if calling them?
When checking out the technical settings menu, I find that the 'return path is off' invariably.
I am beginning to think that there is an ongoing problem with their cable service to my area which they are unwilling to go to the expense of rectifying, but without being able to check with their other users in the area, am unable to check this.
Ideas, anyone?

Ugh, I know exactly how you feel. Their service is ridiculous. We are moving in a month, so don't think we'll get virgin there if possible
