Strange goings ons with my wireless broadband!

Ok, this is weird. I've been having all sorts of problems with my wireless connection.
It's a very simple one - all I have is a Linksys modem/router connected wirelessley to my laptop via a card. I'm on TalkTalk (I know I know! Not much I can do about that now!)
The connection works sometimes. But then with no apparent reason the connection to the internet drops. The connection between laptop and router however is normally very good.
But now to add to the problems, the linksys software (which I access by double clicking the grey/green icon in the taskbar) says that there is no connection not only between the internet and the router, but also between the router and my laptop - yet the internet is working very well at the moment!
What could possibly be going wrong? It was similar this morning. I went out for a couple of hours whilst it was working, leaving the laptop and router switched on. I came home and the connection between the router and the internet had dropped. I couldn't get it restarted even though I unplugged and replugged everything and disabled and re-enabled the connection. In the end I restarted the laptop and that is where I am now - apparently 'no connection' but it works!
Any advice please? Thanks!

maybe you are connected to someone elses router, does it work on the internet when your router is switched off?
have you setup encryption and told windows not to connect to any router in range?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Assuming that windows is managing the wireless, and not a 3rd party manager..
right click on your wireless network icon, view available wireless networks, change advanced settings, wireless networks, highlight your ssid, properties, connection. Make sure "connect when this network is in range" is ticked. Click OK, advanced, make sure Access point (Infrastrucure) networks only is selected, and automatically connect to non-preferred networks is untickedEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
