Does anyone know if this can be done with one cable and where I could get the cable to do this?

Its a toshiba 42" LCD tv, not sure of model number and the laptop is an Acer laptop, unfortunatly at work at the moment so can't get further information that that.0

Chances are both have vga connections, however you would need to handle the audio separately.
The only interface I'm aware of that will handle both is HDMI.That gum you like is coming back in style.0
