Laptop for 14 y/p daughter

Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a laptop, for my 14 y/0 daughter, for Xmas present. She's using my 6 y/o Dell desktop at moment, but it's getting slow now, and restricts her to her bedroom. She's just started her GCSE courses, and is using her PC a lot for research & writing essays etc. She's not really into games, but uses it for the typical teenager things such as facebook, twitter, youtube.
Appreciate that refurbs can offer better value, but would prefer to buy a new one, seeing as it is an Xmas present, and have set a top limit of £400. As my wife gets 10% staff discount from Sainsburys, these 2 have caught my untrained eye, and would appreciate any thoughts or comments;
Samsung R530 2.1GHz 2GB/320GB HD Ready Laptop (£379 before discount)
Hewlett Packard G62-A17EA 15.6" 2GB/500GB Notebook (£399 before discount)
(Forum won't let me post links - but both on Sainsburys site)
Look forward to getting some guidance !!

Hard to say without seeing the full specs but I would suggest that this is a good deal if you want something entry level

in my personal opinion I would go Toshiba over any other brand for Laptops.kicking squealing gucci little piggy.0 -

Taking a quick look both seem similarly specified. Both use dual core processors (Intel on Samsung, AMD on the HP), both have same RAM although the HP has a slightly larger hard disk and IMO a better graphics card. If I was to go for either it would probably be the HP.
Here are the links:-

i agree , never seem to have to deal with problems on Hp machines and in worse case scenarios they have the recovery system buit in for Windows so you can repair/reinstallEx forum ambassador

the sainsburys right up specs are rubbish
hp http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02257247&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_UKEN
samsung http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/pc-peripherals/notebook-computers/everyday/NP-R530-JA02UK/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification
i would personally go for the samsung as all better features according to there specs listed not sainsburys rubbish write up
proccessor better http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=40739&code=t4400
ram is listed as 4gb not 2gb
and samsung say is 500gb not 320gb
unless sainsburys is selling an older model maybe i would ring up and ask first but there spec is way off to samsungs description.0 -
