INSURANCE PROBLEM: advice needed!
Options
I'm off to Spain to 'house-sit' the property of some friends whilst they're away. My wife can't go with me because of her work commitments (lucky me, being retired).
Our friends have asked me to use their car whilst they're gone, to save me the cost of hiring one. However. . .
I no longer have UK car insurance in my own name. Having retired, I don't need a car, so share one with my wife. I am the named driver on her policy. I have a clean driving record, no claims, have been driving for 35 years and more.
But. . . how would I go about getting cover to drive our friends' car in Spain, when I don't have a UK motor insurance policy of my own?????

Easiest way is to get your friend to cover you on their policy.0

Have a look at Insure Daily. They will do a short-term policy from one to 28 days.

Thanks for the advice everyone and that especially useful link to short term motor insurance: I hadn't realised there was such a provision.
Looks like I'm going to have to forego our friends' car because no UK insurer will issue temporary cover on a non-UK registered vehicle which isn't in the UK anyway. Foreign cover is available but applies only in the case of the insured's own vehicle (i.e., taking it abroad); it doesn't apply if the car isn't the insured's vehicle, but belongs to someone else.
Our friends are now checking their policy with their Spanish insurer to see if they can get a temporary "any driver" clause.
Thanks again.0
