Hi all,
note to admin: if this thread has alreday been started somewhere else i apologise for not fuinding it, feel free to close this and ill know that this discussion is alreday taking place.
no doubt anyone watching C4 News last night saw the investiagtion the dispatches program had made into the wholesale selling of personal financial and identifying data in India of customers for banks like Natwest by certain workers employed in their call centres...
Report
whilst i really shouldn't been surprised (after all it happens here too, albeit on a smaller scale) im interested if anyone know enough abbout banks to offer safer alternatives...
ive had a long and painful relationship with natwest ever since i was snagged by them on freshers week at uni, but cutting a long story short these new revelations look like to be the final nail in the coffin for me- having been ready to change bank for a while i really don't want go for another who run a call centre in India and basically want to know if there are any safer alternatives out there....
without phoning up every bank and risking being lied to (wouldn't be the first time ive been misled by a sales rep) am wondering if we could perhaps get a list together of those who don't operate call centres in India and therefore are not as prone to this kind of corruption to their data security. anyone feel contributing who has insider knowledge?

ps- a collegue at work had his card cloned and went through hell trying to get his money back, it was only the fact that he was married (two incomes) that meant he didn't fall into payment arrears and debts whilst the bank dillydallied over getting his £2000 refunded- im not paranoid, but im not well off or married either and having my account cleared in this fashion would cause horrendus problems for me

NatWest in their advertisements say they have UK call centres only.

im now a littrle more dubious of the dispatches repoprt as other banks named also seem to have UK call centres...

A lot of the data on the programme came from people who'd given their details when buying other goods, e.g. mobile phones. So not really the bank's fault. This is presumably how thay had data about cards for banks that only have uk call centres.0

yes perhaps i slightly misunderstood cos im not sure that even the natwest credit cards are done over there, i think it's best try avoid those companies in the future and the oldagetraveller sited is a good starting point..

Halifax is part of HBOS - so also Bank of Scotland do not have over seas call centres0
-
NatWest certainly do not have any call centres in India.Hope this helps.0
