Asus laptop?

Hi
I've been following the threads and have seen a few people recommending Asus. I have £500 to spend and need a laptop for work (word, powerpoint and Excel). Plus internet browsing and online game playing. I will also store photos on it
My question is, is this any good Asus X52F-SX163V on Asus Laptop.co.uk (sorry can't post the link as only just registered)

Also what else do people recommend and is there anyway I can get a discount/cashback

Thanks for your help

Why do you like that laptop in particular?
  • In all honesty it's the Asus that matches my price spec and has the most RAM for ~£500. Have no real preference on make but have seen Asus recommended on here as being reliable etc

Well FWIW AIUI the i3 chip seems to be the equivalent of the SU7300\9400, if you take a look around the ASUS website: http://event.asus.com/2009/nb/ul_series/ the UL models offer somewhere in the region of 11 - 12 hours worth of battery life. If you're into that kind of thing that's quite good what's more they have that 33% Turbo Boost thing going on which allows for you to choose when to activate it, it has a 'mode' button it might be worth your while having a look around the site and checking out the other models before you jump for the aforementioned model.

The Reliability probably comes from the 2 year international warranty that ASUS provide. I've just spent 3 hours researching this on and off and come up pretty much with the same thing that you have, the exact same model infact apart from the retailers which seem to vary give or take ten or twenty pounds, pretty much as seen here: http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=Asus+X52F-SX163V&hl=en&aq=f

My own preference would be for a model that offers extensive battery life over anything else so would disregard the model mentioned above such as the i3 and go for the more favourable SU7300\9400 instead this page: http://www.laptopspec.net/tag/core-2-duo-su9400/ rather helpfully displays a number of models that feature the chip inside .

Obviously, this post doesn't tell you anything you don't already know, so good luck anyway and have fun with your whatever you purchase. At least with the extended battery life if you disappear into a field you can take loads of images and you don't have to return to civilisation before you're ready, I suppose is one advantage :)
