Sky+ box

Our Sky box is on it's way out. It is a normal sky digital box, not +, anot HD.
We have the chance of being given a free sky + box from a fried who has upgraded to HD and is otherwise going to throw out his +box. Can we use this box without the dish/cables being upgraded? Would we still be able to record TV on the + Box?

[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

No it won't work with your excisting cable0

You will need to change the LNB on your sky dish and run an extra cable from the dish to your sky+ box. The extra cable allows you to do the recording while watching TV on the other cable. I think you will also need to notify sky that you have a +box, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone else here can advise.0

I'm sorry, but why won't it work?
You'll need to phone Sky. Tell the you've got a Sky+ box and they'll pair your viewing card to it.
You will be able to record, but as you'll only have 1 feed to the box, you won't be able to watch another program if you're recording.Dave. :wave:0 -
I have plugged in a Sky+ box with no viewing card, and got the freeview channels, but no planner or recording.
I've swapped one Sky+ box for another and got the same functionality carried over.
My guess is that if you have a standard Sky subscription, the Sky+ will give you that and nothing else, and so effectively be just a noisierr Sky receiver.
As noted above, you do need a second wire from the dish to get the second channel capability.
And you need a Sky+ subscription to get the planning & recording capability.0 -

Your absolutely right about needing to upgrade your LNB and supply a second cable from it to the sky+ box presuming you are wanting to use it as such. You also need to phone sky to have them pair your card with the box in order to get recording facilities and full functionality. I did my girlfriends and that is the things I had to do. Sky do not charge for pairing your sky card to a sky+ box except for the phone call that is and the wait in the queue!0
