Santander Credit Card: Missing Payment!!

Hi Everyone
I wonder if anyone could offer me some advise.....
I received my Santander credit card statement today and I have been charged a missed payment fee and my last payment is not showing.
I sent a cheque (like I have been doing for the last 12 months) of £250, it was cashed on 20th September (my 'pay by' date was 27th Sep).
I phoned Santander and was told they did not receive my payment, so it must be lost in the post.
I have phoned my bank Alliance & Leicester (who are now owned by Santander!!!) to get details on the cheque, they aren't allowed to give out details about cheques on the phone but said they would send me a copy of the banked cheque.
The cheque was made out to Santander Credit Card with my name and account number on the payee line (the cheque is also crossed so no one else could cash it)
What can I do to prove santander had this money and where could it of gone?

If the cheque was "cashed" by Santander, then they must have a record of it somewhere, but then again it is Santander you are dealing with! Why don't you set up a DD for future payments. It takes the onus for payment off you. And ditch Santander and go elswhere.0

Thanks Hansi
I still have to prove it was Santander that cashed it, I'm hoping when I get a copy of the cheque it will show where the money actually went
But I will take your advise about ditching them...0 -
I suggest you start Santdander's complaints procedure and send them a photocopy of the processed cheque (keep the original) along with your compaint regarding the charges.

You need to send a copy of both the front and back of the cheque to your credit card provider. On the reverse is sufficient information for them to find exactly where they have placed these funds.
The error has been made by the bank processing the credit, ie Santander. As you have stated your account number and name in the payee section, they should not have credited any other account than yours, so make sure that they refund any late payment fees, etc.
It may also be worthwhile asking them to put a note on your account of these circumstances, as it may take a while before it's sorted.0 -
Amazing, if not unbelievable that people still send cheques to pay their credit card bills !0

this once happened to me and they did eventually find it, the payment had gone in to some kind of holding account as I got my card number 1 digit wrong on the back of the cheque, it took me 3 months to sort it out but i did'nt get all the late fees back as i made the mistake even though they had my money just in another account. I am no longer a customer! Best of luck0

Unbelievable it may be...even 'old fashioned' but are direct debits any better when Santander are concerned??
If you have a DD setup, then the onus is on Santander to collect it in-line with the payment due date they have specified on your statement. Also, if any problems arise with the amount collected, (too much taken, etc) then you can get an "instant" refund from your bank.My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
