Tax credits if staying at grandparents ??

Hi guys, quick question.

At the moment there are 3 of us living in a house (me/wife/1 year old child).

There is a chance we may lose our house soon. Hopefully the council will find us something, but lets take the worst option (worst is not so bad really).

Say we go to live temporarily with my parents (2 retire people are only occupants). Would Inland revenue either stop our child/working tax credits....or assess the parents income (not alot, but I would not want to embarrass them) and reduce accordingly.

OR .....do the grandparents have no part in it, and I notify Inland Rev with no changes.

Anyone know ??

do your parents own their own house? if they do their income shouldnt be taken into account, we lived with our MIL and it didnt affect anything we got at the time, just her HB

Have you read the info on the Shelter website which is aimed at home owners about to lose their house (if you are a owner) or the eviction process/homelessness sections (if you are a tenant)?

For home owners, there are various govt schemes aimed at preventing repossession. For tenants, the section on how a council will assess a homelessness application is very informative.

Tax credits only look at the income of the claimants, not the income of a parent/grandparent/friend etc.

There is no need to declare the grandparents' income to TCO but if they receive any benefits like Housing Benefit they should let the relevant department know as it may affect it.
