Think sh1305 has nailed it ... the £280 is 10 wks disability premium at £28 pw. That means you've claimed both JSA Contributory and JSA Income Based. Dunno how the other payment was worked out, could be a few odd days in there somewhere or maybe enhanced disability premium etc.

What rate of DLA were you awarded ?

I was given the middle rate of DLA (not mobility, the other one), works out to 47.50 a week

but why would i be getting a premium of 28 p/w when all i wanted was the 130 i didnt get paid on wednesday? which shouldnt be relevant at all to jobseekers allowance?

Did you get another letter (I don't know if they do this) stating that due to change of circumstances, (DLA award) you're now getting x amount of money every 2 weeks, plus back pay?

I had a letter from DLA two weeks ago confirming what rate i was on and that i'd be getting backdated payment from my claim date which came in last week

its all been paid, so really dont understand these two extra payments one bit :)

If you receive any rate of DLA and are on an income based benefit, you receive a premium of £28 each week. This is how much the law says you need to live on. If you're classed as living alone and have no-one claiming carers allowance for you, can claim the severe disability premium of £52.85 per week.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/FinancialSupport/OtherBenefitsAndSupport/DG_068683 explains more about the premiums.

Worked out the other giro ... simple, really, when you get the kids to bed and put on your thinking cap ...

    2 wks JSA at the new rate ... £65.45 personal allowance plus £28.00 disability premium = £93.45 pw times 2 = £186.90
I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.
  • Crikey I feel so stupid now! Should have seen that easily.

    Well done guys.

Yes it does mean you got the right amount. How long ago did you put your DLA claim in? If you're entitled to the severe disability premium, I think you may need to talk to someone on the job seekers advice line. The direct gov link I posted earlier gives you more information.

DLA doesn't count as income for your JSA.

    Hi

I put my claim in for DLA on 12th July. I got 525 paid in backdated pay two weeks ago

Still dont understand where the 280 has come from? the 186.90 is maybe accounted for

(not trying to discount the great work you guys have done tonight in helping me work this out... just want to make sure I havent overpaid and if I have, as im a honest person, I'd like to repay the excess back to help someone else who may need the money more than me :))

If you receive any housing benefit or council tax benefit, you need to inform them too. Like with JSA, there's disability premiums within them.
