Hi All
I have a HP 5610 with XP SP3 connected to my desktop which is wirlessly connected to router (???). Printing has always been a bit of an issue but now it is getting stupid, i am on the verge of taking the printer outside and giving it a good kicking. I know it won't fix it but it might make me feel better!
When i try and print from my laptop which has Windows 7 OS the document either remains in the Q on my laptop or just disappears. I'm having to email them to my desktop now!
Does anyone have any tips or fixes please. Is it worth me installing the full Windows 7 Driver on my laptop?
Please help, i'm losing hair as we speak

I suggest that first you find out whether it works properly when you connect a USB cable from the laptop to the printer. If it does, then it's probably a wireless problem, which can be dealt with later! (Saves having a dented printer...)0

Just tested and it does print from USB. On the wireless issue it used to be connected by USB to router and was better then but did still have issues. Definitely prints slower over wireless, and often stops/pauses for a time when half way through the print/page.
Also, it wouldn't have been a dent in the printer, maybe a dent in the pavement!0 -
Assuming I've got this right, is the printer connected to the Windows XP machine? If you've got the wireless upgrade for the HP, ignore the rest of my post. If you've got it connected as I've guessed, carry on.
Windows XP networking is seriously broken and has been for the thick end of a decade.
The solution is quite easy but involves a bit of faff. Firstly on the Windows 7 machine, put a password on the user account. Second, on the XP machine, create an account using the same username and password or if an account exists with the same username, put a password on it the same as the Win7 box.
Pretty much works every time WinXP has problems with shares.0 -
is it a 64 bit copy of windows 7?
If so i know the fix
You need to enable the drivers to be installed alongside the x86 ones and to do this you find the printer in the printers section of the control panel on the computer the printer is attached to.
You then need to right click and then click printer properties.
Next you click the Sharing tab and then click Share this printer (make sure that you share with Everyone) and under that it should allow you to click on a box saying Additional Drivers.
In there you should be able to click the x64 drivers which this then allows win7 x64 to install the correct drivers to work with the printer when your connecting to it.

PS post above is correct but only really for network mapping and hard drive access0 -
Thanks
Not been around for couple of days.
Have Windows 7 32 bit, there is no windows 7 drivers to share on PC connected to the printer which has XP.
Re; the password route, would the PC need to be signed into the account to print?0
