Personal Savings

Hi everyone.

I'm interested to find out other peoples methods of saving money, and also who they hold accounts with. I have an ING account, where I put 10% of any earnings I make. Little and often suits me.

I'd like to know any tactics or advice anyone has in saving cash, or any simple tricks to make/save money. Also if you know the best account to have please let me know.

Thanks
I'm kind of a big deal

My grandad always said spend half, save half - easier said than done in this day & age!

We split savings up between 3 accounts with 50% in the ISA (Nationwide) until full then the next highest interest account we have with 25% x2 divided into the others (local Credit Union* & Yorkshire BS).

We tend to save quite abit as theirs 2 of us earning good money but, we're mindful that life may not be this easy forever so save quite highly - in case.

    * The reason we use the local Credit Union to save despite having 1% (+/-) divvy p/y is that we was always brought up poor plus have worked with the mentally ill for nearly 2 decades where society often shuns to the side so while we have it good we'll distribute our 'wealth' where others less fortunate than ourselves have a realistic possibility of access :)

    Thanks for asking :)

I'd like to know any tactics or advice anyone has in saving cash, or any simple tricks to make/save money. I set up direct debits from other people's accounts - I find this trick works a treat! Also if you know the best account to have please let me know.

    Thanks

Why would I need to give you my account details?!!! Struggling to see how that may help you advise!

Fedz, thanks for your advice... if you can save half spend half you really are doing well! However I think I'd need to get myself off minimum wage before I can start to half my spending!

When you said-until your ISA is full- what is the general limit to these things? And why then divide up into two other accounts rather than one?

    Thanks again.

    NP :)

ISA limit is 5,100 but, the reason I split into 2 is cos I don't like keeping money all in one place eg: Nationwide, plus smaller balances look like they need funding more than one big balance - I'm like a squirrel :rotfl:

I use YBS cos have been with them since a kid & Credit Union cos of their ethos & ethics :)

I have a PostOffice account also but, just shove odd bits in their for somewhere else to 'play' with!

OK - to make up for my earlier flippancy:

Lloyds Vantage c/a. 4%. Use the search function for countless threads on the subject.

Regular savings accounts - though beware limitations/penalties on withdrawals.
