Credit Report - Equifax

Got a bit of dumb question which maybe someone can answer..am more curious than anything else.

Have been looking at my Equifax credit report and there are 2 cards on there - one with a limit of £3400 and another £3000, now - I paid these off in 2007 but didn't close the cards. Shortly after though, the limits on them were reduced to around £300 a piece and the two companies they were with were taken over by Barclaycard (Morgan Stanley and Sky I think) and the cards were assigned to (new) Barclaycard accounts.

When I look on my report though, all four cards are there and none of them show as settled - is this correct ? Am just thinking does this mean my report is showing that I have around £6400 worth of credit that I actually don't ?

Thanks in advance :)

If they do not show as settled then it means for potential lenders that those accounts are still active and that you have £6400 at your disposal to spend. You will need to contact the providers to close those accounts.
  • I'm confused... If the credit limits were reduced to £300, then why isn't the credit report showing the reduced credit limit for these?

Either way, as stephane points out - if you are not using them, best to close them.

It's showing four card accounts when in reality I only have two :

    1. Old Morgan Stanley account which was taken over by Barclays (£3400 - not showing as settled)
    2. Old Skycard account which was taken over by Barclays (£3000 - not showing as settled)
    3. New Barclays account (£300 - transferred from Morgan Stanley)
    4. New Barclays account (£300 - transferred from Sky)

This is only on the Equifax report, the Experian one is fine.

Am just wondering if this is correct, or should the old accounts show as settled ?

1 and 2 should show as Settled as 3 and 4 replaced them.

Contact Equifax who will deal with this for you. Under the DPA and CCA they are not allowed to publish incorrect data, even if it isn't their fault - it is their problem to sort out.

  • Thanks, will get in touch with them.....

...the other thing that I noticed on my Experian report is that I'm still shown as being financially associated with my wife....the only slight problem being that she died in 2007 ! Have contacted them about that one as well.....
  • I had a couple of wrong accounts on my experian report a few weeks ago - sent an email through the online sign-in and it took them about a week to sort out. They just send me an email saying they had deleted the incorrect accounts. So not too slow a response.

OK - Accounts 1 and 2. When you say 'taken over' what actually happened? Did 1 and 2 get transferred to 3 and 4?

If so, then presumably Barclaycard should have taken care of the settlement of 1 and 2. Seems like Experian have somehow recognised this but Equifax haven't.

As mentioned by others, get in touch with Equifax and mention the Data Protection Act - that'll put it up 'em!

    Good luck.

Barclays (as far as I know) bought Morgan Stanley's and Sky's Credit Card operations and therefore took over my account - my accounts then became Barclays ones with Barclaycard numbers etc....

    :)
