  • @ hebe - yes, myself and a colleague pay our own annual liability insurance so that we can provide private accredited tuition outside of "work hours" we have cards in local bike shops, newsagents etc and leave cards when we visit schools also.

Have you even tried to get local housing allowance or council tax benefit?
That's why I am here, we have lived together and are unaware of exactly what is out there to help us -I could have made this more clear
  • During the school holidays you should be able to claim for JSA. Other people have suggested help with housing have you applied for it.

I live in North Tyneside and I used to do private tuition which paid ok. I found it difficult to find clients in my area but was often offered clients south of the river. This was for Primary education but I'm sure there is a market for Secondary also - have you/your partner checked out private tuition sites?

Obviously the only other thing is to keep searching for other work and as many have mentioned there are a lot of Christmas jobs on offer at the moment which will be wanting people to work weekends/school holiday especially. All the high street stores plus royal mail will all be looking for people
  • Also could your partner register for supply teaching for the other 0.5 of the time. If willing to take on teaching assistant work too there is usually a fairly steady supply of decently paid work.

At what point did i ask "hey, how can I get work?, or what type of work is available in my area?"
It was not career advice I was asking for. You seem to have the impression I just want to coast along working as little as possible, with as many benefits as possible (and are not at all in posession of all the fact to have come to this conclusion) Infact know it would be much easier if I chose to simply stop working - in this scenario we would recieve help i.e. JSA, Rent/Council tax rebate - like countless others. This is not the case.

No you wouldn't, you'd possibly be sanctioned for up to 26 weeks for giving up work volantarily...
