DVD Burning

Hi all,
I'm about to dip my toe into the DVD burning world and need some advice.

I'm looking at getting this drive, but I'm flying blind to be honest. Any good?

The next question is what media do I go for? I want to burn dvds that will work on a standard dvd player (if there is such a thing) and would like to try dvd ram.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Zahc

OK, I've found answers as far as media are concerned (http://www.proactionmedia.com/dvd_media_formats.htm ).

    Any thoughts on the drive/burner?

that dvdrw is fine although out of stock according to the web site.

pioneer, nec, lite on are all good at the job. make sure you actualy have some burning software ( xp does come with a basic program to burn dvds).

pretty much every dvd player ( stand alone) plays dvd-r, these are also the cheapest kind of dvd's to buy as everyone uses them.

a word of warning, most of the dvd players i have used get a bit funny about dvd's recorded at anything above x8. mind you most of the dvd players i use are over 1 year old so maybe that problem is all ok now?

Thanks Brummybloke. The black one is in stock, so I'll go for it. I've got nero 6, I reckon that should do.
