Broken Staircase Riser & Tread

Hi I hope somebody can help,

I have 2 broken stairs in my house, and i have no idea how to fix them. The stairs are two larger corner stairs where the staircase changes direction. The bottom of the riser has detached from the back of the tread on both steps. There is no access to the stairs from the rear as i live in a maisonette and there is another staircase below and the ceiling is plastered. All the stairs are sunk into the skirting, so i can not pull up a tread very easily.

Is there a relatively easy way of repairing this from above. I should also point out that the stairs are carpeted.

Apologies if i have not explained this very clearly, i do not have any experience of staircases

Many thank

Carl

The only way to do it properly involves access from downstairs but where that’s not possible I’ve repaired them in the past using a bit of 18mm plywood cut to sit on top of the existing tread and glued/screwed/nailed to the existing tread & riser.

Cut a chamfer on the leading edge to avoid killing the carpet and obviously it only works if you have full width carpet.

The really quick & dirty method is to pull everything back into place using screws & 90 degree bits of metal fixed to tread & riser
