Remote central locking not working when parked near local Post Office

It will almost certainly be a certain type of light bulb being used nearby. Don't know what you can do about it though.0

Its almost certainly RF interfearance from something nearby thats transmitting on 433.92Mhz (which is what 99% of remote car alarm fobs work on).
This band is public however so you can't do much about it, sorry0 -
thanks guys for the help. My OH used to work for BT(Post office telecommunications as it was known when he worked for them) and he remembers there used to be a dept that looked into interference etc, something to do with the radio & telegraph act???.0

The frequency band for car alarm/fobs is also extremely close to that used by the new TETRA digital radio's used by our emergency services since around 2006.
If you park up near one of the high powered transmitters your remote will not work at all (there's one in a particular road in Stafford town centre).
TETRA is also being used now by Taxi firms and such..... I don't know on what frequency though.
House burglar alarms that have been imported from non-EU countries can also cause problems, there's was a case in the last 5 years where for 3 months nobody could work out why nearly every car in the street was sounding it's alarm at exactly the same time, it was eventually found that there was MASSIVE interference being transmitted at 433Mhz and it was eventually traced to a dodgy burglar alarm.
The other (but unlikely in this case) is HAM radio enthusiasts, where I used to live the whole street would loose their home WIFI whenever the local HAM radio enthusiast "fired up" his kit, the aerial was nearly double the height of his house!! Im sure that guy was talking about 10-4 rubber ducks to bloody Australia!!! idiot!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

OH had similar at Stanstead airport, car wouldn’t start, AA said "Ahh, that'll be the radar" towed it 300m down the road and it was fine.
Whether that is dodgy BAA radar or “entertaining” Alfa electrics I’m not sure0 -
Wireless doorbells are also known to cause remote central locking problems.0
-
Add to that faulty automatic sliding door sensors.
Easiest way to over come this is to hold the remote against your chin and press unlock. The man without a signature.0 -
does that work with beards?0

So that explains why my doorbell kept ringing when the neighbours in my street all arrived home at various times. I had to change the frequency to stop it going haywire at all weird times.Gloomendoom wrote: »Wireless doorbells are also known to cause remote central locking problems.
I've heard that too. Is there some scientific logic behind that that someone would care to explain?vikingaero wrote: »Easiest way to over come this is to hold the remote against your chin and press unlock.0 -
OFCOM are the department responsible but they'll not be interested in interference caused in an unlicenced public band.0
