I had this issue a few years back and your comment about the Ka made me laugh.

I did exactly that ordered a diesel low spec non metallic fiesta with steel wheels and air con. Evengot them to remove the CD player to bring down price.

It all got signed off and went through but when it arrived the transport manager was absolutely livid as the spec I had ordered had an absolutely abysmal sell on value. It was the only car on the fleet with steel wheels and in a non metallic.

People laughed at me at first but when they realised how much tax I was saving and also how much money I was making by driving the smallest diesel we could get (fuel was set per mile for diesel and based on assumption we all had 2 litre engine or higher).

I was high mileage and it worked out at a profit for me of 15p a mile. Not bad when you did 1500 miles a week.

Above points are interesting and I think employers will be lining up to launch newsalary sacrifice schemes within 3 years.

Sadly in our case if we didn't have company fuel we couldn't clain the first 100 miles ( I think) of fuel due to my OH working some 100 miles from where he lives:-)

BMW are great for low emmissions but try and get 3 kids in the back- no way if 2 are in car seats- not even in a 5 series!!! Tried it in the BM show room-lol
