Our daughter has been looking to take out her first car insurance £1800 for a Fiesta. However if I go on as a named driver it drops to £1175.00.

Anyone else come across this? I thought it was supposed to be the other way round!!!

  • I added my dad and my sister to my policy as a named driver, and that knocked around £800-900 off.

Aslong as you're not fronting for your daughter, there's nothing at all wrong with being a named driver on her policy.
  • Steve1500 - who was that insurance policy with? I am looking for car insurance for my son and trying to get a good deal. he has 1 year no claims but all quotes are higher than that - that's boys for you though I guess!

I'm a named driver on my sons car but I very rarely drive it. It does bring his premium down though.

It's perfectly legal. The Insurers probably have actuarial statistics where Policyholders who have their parents on the Policy probably drive more carefully and have fewer claims.

I have noticed Elephant are one of the best for adding parents onto policies and reducing premiums.

I've done it in the past to reduce my premium.

It's very useful for when they have a drink, stay at their mates, then phone their dad to come and drive them home the next morning as well.

(I've always told then to give me a ring and check if they can, if I say yes they'll park up on their mates drive, then they won't touch the car again. If I can't, they won't touch the alcohol. If it's planned, I'll take them in the first place)
