Pickled Onions

Every year i do pickled onions for Christmas but next Christmas i would like to pickle onions that i have grown has anyone any ideas of of a good pickling onion and where i can buy the seeds from please.

I grew "Purplette" this year for pickling, and I got them from Tuckers seeds

They were ok, but if you do grow them try and harvest them before they turn into golfball sized ones, like some of mine did! I just used the big ones as red onions (I did pickle some smaller ones)

Tbh I prefer shallots for pickling, but that's just me...

We always pickle the smaller shallots we grow from seed (the banana/chicken leg ones), they are slightly sweeter.

My onions, both red and white, turned out pretty small, with lots definitely smaller than golf-ball size. Is it ok to pickle them?
