London Hotel Help!

Hello,
Apologies in advance for my naivety.
We're at a posh dinner in London in a couple of weeks (22 & 23 Oct, and I've yet to book accommodation - eek!
Can anyone recommend, or advise me where to look for/find half decent accommodation that doesn't cost the earth?! The best I can find is The Wellington, but it's still pretty pricey IMO! Is everything in London so expensive?! We just want somewhere clean, we don't even need brekky! Needs to be in the Westminster area. My colleague has suggested a Youth Hostel! It probably doesn't help that it's the start of half term too!
I'll probably seem like a real numpty asking this, but TBH we're not hotel or city people, we're more likely to be found in our camper in the countryside!
Thanks in advance,
Georgie

Premier Inn County Hall. We stayed there and used it as a base for the West End. Breakfast is around £7.95 for an "all you can eat"
Its standard premier inn but its a nice hotel and the rooms are good. Its right next to the London EyeThe Cabbage

Thanks john.xs & cabbage. Premier Inn £253 and Travelodge £235 for two nights. I suspect being a country bumpkin I am a bit out of touch and therefore unrealistic!"No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0

The Tune Hotel is very close to Westminster, the rooms a are small and they charge you extra for everything eg towels and cleaning but it has only just been built so the building is pretty good0

Thanks dacouch - looks great, but all booked up the dates we need. Might give them a call in the morning to check though."No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0

Hotels at Heathrow, Ibis, or the Thistle are abour £40 per night. I know its not central, but all you have to do is jump on the underground, it will take you into central London in about half an hour. Alternately get a cab to Westminster for about £30, still work out cheaper than a central London hotel. Any queries e-mail me back.

Not out of touch, but rather left it a bit late - the best Travelodge prices are had in their sales, or failing that more than 21 days in advance. And being a weekend at half term makes it more difficult.
Have you had a look to see if there is anythinhg available on the holiday Inn '2 nights for the proce of one' deal ?
