DVD posted in jiffy bag - is it a large letter or a packet?

I've sold a few single DVD's on Ebay this last week and I packaged each one the same, in a 265 x 180mm Jiffy Bag.
Two were posted in a town main Post Office and I was charged £1.27 each which I was expecting and had included in the postage charge on each auction.
The other was posted in a village Post Office and I was charged £0.65. I did query it and said shouldn't it be Packet rate (too honest) and was told it can be classed as a large letter because it can be posted through a letterbox.
I'm not complaining, will probably use village PO for all if it's cheaper :T , but just wondering what others usually get charged?

I've sent a few, and all have been charged as large letter.0

Is it worth making a complaint to the town Post Office?0

All the books I've sold on Amazon so far have gone as 'large letter' in jiffy bags so a dvd should definitely go as that! I would certainly make a complaint to the town PO, I think the staff there need some re-training.Swagbucks earnings since 22/05/2012 £135 paypal cash

The criteria is quite specific as regards size and thickness, as long as it meets those it shouldbe classed as a large letter.0

It has to be over 25mm thick to be classified as a packetBe nice0

There was a previous post about this where Soo was being charged packet rate for items that went through the slot. This was on the basis that they touched the sides and the postmistress would only accept items as a large letter if they went through without touching. There does seem to be a difference of interpretation.
I think it's worth assessing it yourself and saying that the item is a large letter (in your opinion) as you present it at the counter. In my PO, now everyone is used to the system, they are just looking at items to judge what category they go in and the perspex gauge is hardly used (except by customers).0 -
Thanks all for your replies. I did do a search before I started the thread as thought this had probably happened before, but didn't find anything.
Part of the problem is I'm out of touch with the Post Office system as I've been living overseas for 5 years, so I made a worse case scenerio assumption for Ebay postage. Also at the town Post Office although the lady could see all the parcels, I placed them on the scales and put the postage stickers on, so I'll won't do a letter of complaint, more of a 'do you think this lady needs further training?' approach.
Thing is there's a lot of uncertainty amongst the main Post Office's in our area at the moment as just 2 weeks ago the county town main PO was closed and moved to WH Smith with not one of the old staff being transferred to Smiths0 -

I didn't actually start a thread about it I just tend to whinge everywhereabout how the rules are interpreted differently by different POs. I have had a DVD in a plain jiffy refused as a large letter as my local PO said they could hear it as it went through the gauge so it obviously touched the sides. Mind you, I've had lots of problems there, the latest was that I am still using the silver plastic bags for sending very light, thin material items. The PO lady could see these were mega thin, so she picks them up by one corner, shakes everything in the bag down to one end and then says it won't go through.
I now make an effort to walk into town to use a different PO who are a lot more accomodating.
If one PO won't take your DVD as a large letter, then try and find one that will. Sorry, that's the only real advice I have at the moment.
