Does anyone know how to cancel this without incurring the premium rate number?

Type Debenhams here and you should find the number, I think it is 0800 9152205: http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php
  • Debenhams don't run the card GE Capital do, so I don't think a Debenhams number will help you.

As far as I know all Debenhams stores have a freephone direct to GE capital so you can go instore and sort out your problems.

All store cards are credit cards - you borrow money "On credit" then pay it back or pay interest.

The credit card issued by Debenhams is given to customers who apply for a store card but have a better credit score/rating. The credit card is better as it has a much lower APR and you can earn points to replace the Nectar card.
I also believe you get £15 in vouchers with the credit card to agin make up for end of Nectar. This wouldn't have been given with storecard.

BUT -- You should have been told when you application went through at the till
"You have been accepted for a Mastercard with a spending limit of £xxxx"
And then told to read the information of APR and interest if you only make min payments.

This should have been read to you, if it wasn't the Sales assistant was at fault.
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!

I thought all 'store cards' where credit cards..... just with discounts and a stupidly large APR...........

I work in Debenhams, you should be provided with the option as to whether you would like a store card or a credit card, more people do tend to opt for the credit card now as you earn reward vouchers dependent upon the amount of spending on the card, this replaces the nectar points which debenhams no longer participates in. There is a freephone in stores which links directly to GE capital so if you have a problem go into your store and you wont have to pay any call charges.

Stop complaining, there are some people on here who can't get a Vanquis card!
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

I picked one of these up before Chrimbo when they had the 20-25% Off Sale plus 10% for the Card. Personally I was expecting a huge interest rate, around 27%+ but was surprised to find it was only 14.9% the same as my Barclaycard and less then my Asda Card plus it offers a whole host of Benefits.

It is indeed run by GE Capital as is my Asda Card both use the GE Money web site.

I only used in the true MSE principal, took the discounts and paid it off in full at the end of January and never used it since. So it worked for me was surprised that I got a £5K Credit Limit on the day off application, and a temporary cardboard card ,could of run up some serious debt.
    Cheers

I have a debenhams card and when I was approved for it in store the sales assistant made quite clear to me that it was a mastercard and I was handed an agreement with credit card agreement on the top of it in big letters.

I remember just before xmas some dweeb tried to 'sell' me this card. What do I want with a credit card/store card when I have a interest free overdraft LOL.

Secondly, why not just pay for your items there and then. Get into debt over clothing, no thanks.

As for 'discounts'. If you work it out, there is no 'real' discount after taking into account of all the money you spend there.

    I would leave well alone.
