build your own for under £300

Our £200 target is just about achievable, if you shop around, but it doesn't take into account extras, like postage and packing etc. The prices we're quoting are fairly typical for on-line retailers and include VAT.

An ad in the Guardian (page 14) for an E-systems laptop for £300. Basic spec but it would do for word etc. In-store price is £350 but it comes in at £300 if you take in the ad.
Hope that helps
Jeff

Second hand or brand new?
PC World is your best place seconded by Staples.
Comet comes third with me.
Lidl, Tesco and Asda all do special offer variants but they are low on pc's.
Do not mail order.
What you get may not be to your liking.
Buy second hand.
Get a pc mag - there are loads of companies selling pc's cheaply.
Dell is the cheapest of them all.
Second hand pc's give you lots of program extras if you look around.
Once you start with the basic stuff, you will soon want extras.
How about broadband? Usual system requirements are 256MB so be sure your next pc has this.
Good luck!
 If you are angry about something, let it be known....... :wall:If I fail to thank you individually, I am sorry. Your advice was appreciated but may not have been 100% the result I was after.
