I thought the theshold for WTC was £17k+ ?

    How old are you?
Do you have any dependent children living with you?
How many hours a week do you work?
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

£17,000 would be for couples, the limit for singles is around £13,000.

OP, the higher figure you quote is for Child Tax Credits, not WTC.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • We've just lost our WTC but we're on 19K as I applied or carers. We were getting it at below £17K though. Is £14K all your income?

I'm also confused by the working tax credit....I earn £20K pa - 28 hrs p/wk, my husband has recently become self employed and will earn approx £8K, doing between 16 and 25 hrs per week.

When we go on the calculator on the HMRC site it still comes out as £0 WTC and just gives us CTC. Under what circumstances is WTC paid?

By the way we have two children, one at school and a baby that will be looked after by my husband.

Isn't it further up in the thread £17k for couples? You earn £28k as a couple so it's too much....

Thank you it's just a friend said to me earlier that she gets WTC, she said that her husband earns 20K (well that's what they tell the taxman from what I gathered it may be a lot more...tut tut), she does a bit of work here and there but she said she gets £63 a week, I wonder if she's getting it confused with some other benefit.
  • Tax credits are made up of both working and child tax credit. Although someone may "qualify" for wtc, after deductions and once a joint income goes above £18300 or thereabouts it will only be ctc element that gets paid.

For a single claimant it's just over £13000.

The £63 is likely to be ctc.
