use 'about' instead of 'circa' in weekly email

I've resisted for months, and I'm sure nobody cares, but I have registered on this forum today just to vent at how annoyed I get every week when the tips email uses phrases like "circa £10". The word 'circa' refers specifically to dates only, not amounts. Instead of hijacking this specialised word, why not use the common word 'about'? Same number of letters and syllables, and everyone knows what it means. If you want an abbreviation, such as "c.£10", then use the modern alternative to the Libra symbol, a tilde, "~£10". End of rant, thanks for reading, I shall now return to the grammar cave.
