Bullguard

Has anyone got any experience of Bullguard?

A colleague recently bought a new laptop and was asking me about AV and protection etc. I recommended Avast as it's what I use at home but he mentioned that as part of the laptop package he was given a copy of Bullguard.

It comes with 5gb of online back up which obviously is a big plus point but does anyone know if it's any good?

Many thanks in advance,

Not really, you can surpass that with various free offerings around anyway

....whether you trust online backup sites not to lose your data is another issue -whats wrong with a portable drive or burnt DVD?

  • Hi JasX,

Absolutely nothing wrong with a burnt DVD and I was actually going to suggest he 'double bags' it by backing to dvd as well.

I was more wondering if anyone had any opinions on the service/performance of Bullguard because I didn't want to suggest he goes for Avast if I'm missing some important information about BG.

    Cheers,

Is your friend running Win 7 on his laptop?

If so, he might be interested to know that in the independent AV tests done by AVTests.org in Q2 of this year, Bullguard Internet Security 9 was one of 4 software programs NOT certified. Of course, the software has probably been updated since the tests were done and may now offer adequate protection. However, why take a chance, he should follow your advice and install Avast 5 or MSE or Avira Antivir, all free and known to offer high levels of protection.

Bullguard is the one we ship with our own brand computers. I've never really found it all that great. Doesn't seem easy to use, and quite frequently tends to completely block people from accessing the internet. I'd put something better on.
