buying a property - tentant has a contract till next March

I have contacted the estate agents and asked them to see if the current tenant would be prepared to leave, am awaiting for them to call me back.
It is annoying if the tenant has just signed the agreement as I want to view the flat a couple of weeks ago but the current owner or tenant kept saying that they where not available everytime I wanted a viewing.
I can very well imagine that the tenant could possibly be somewhat distressed having just signed a six month ast and now expected to allow viewers/estate agents wandering through their home. Please realise that the tenant is under no obligation to let you step a pinky over that doorstep anyway, regardless of what they have agreed to in their tenancy agreement. The fact that this tenant has already allowed you to view their home it would say to me that this tenant isn't fully aware of their rights (most asts have the clause that in last month of fixed term that the tenant allows viewings and to ask tenant to allow viewings 1 month into fixed term shows a total lack of understanding of housing laws and complete and utter contempt for tenants).
Can't say I'm too impressed with the actions of the (LL)vendor/ea. All rather unprofessional. You can almost be sure that the tenant will have been told "this is a long term let" "we don't want you to move any time soon" "stay as long as you like, we're not selling"
Classic accidental landlord imo.
Steer well clear.
*Nods sadly* I continue to be saddened to see tenants used as a means to pay the mortgage and no more. Move a tenant in and boot them out when the tenant has outlived their usefulness. Off you pop tenant, thanks for paying the mortgage when we couldn't sell and needed to move thanks to gf getting preggers.
OP please don't think it's you I'm getting at. You are only looking for somewhere to live. I believe you have been used alongside the tenant too.Inside this body lays one of a skinny woman
but I can usually shut her up with chocolate!
When I thank a post in a thread I've not posted in,
it means that I agree with that post and have nothing further to add.

Thankyou everyone for the replies, the agents got back to me via email rather than calling me and have informed me that the current tenant doesn't wish to leave early and will stay right up until the very last day.
I have withdrawn my offer and will now start a new search.0
