Lloyd's TSB: Under 19's - Electron or not?

Hi all,
Yesterday I went and opened an Under 19's current account with Lloyd's TSB as I'd seen many forum posts claiming it was the best bank account of it's sort, particularly because it offered a full Visa Debit card rather than a Visa Electron. But while filling out the form I noticed that the card options only asked "Do you want to receive a Visa Electron card?" and "Do you want to receive a cashpoint card?"
Of course, I was expecting to receive a proper Visa debit card, so I asked if this would be possible and was promptly told that I could only receive one after my 19th birthday (basically, once I'm eligible for an adult current account).
I'm still hoping that the form was a mis-print and the bank clerk was a newbie, and that I really will be getting a full Visa debit card, but something's telling me that won't be the case.
What I'd really like to know is, have any of you recently opened an Under 19's account with Lloyds? And if so, what experiences have you had with them, and were you issued an electron too?

You will get a 2in1 debit control card.
Serves as a cashpoint and visa card but no cheque guarantee.
The control side of it is that your balance is checked prior to authorisation of a transaction.0 -
Yes, its a Visa Debit and Cash machine Card.
As ejones says, no cheque guarantee part to the card. But i haven't payed by cheque in a shop for years. So I think you wouldnt notice any difference.

hi,
my 17 year old has just opened an account and he got a visa debit, also says current account, but obviously no cheque book
hope this helps0 -
He can ask for a cheque book but cannot use the debit card as a cheque guarantee0

Is it likely that LTSB will give a cheque book to anyone or would you need to have regular income?
(I'd like to open an account, and probably ask for a cheque book but I'm self employed so income isn't regular)
Thanks0 -
hi
the subject of a cheque book never really came up, i`m sure if he`d asked he would have got one, he is in regular employment, but the visa debit is fine for his needs.0 -
Yes you get the flash Visa Debit.
Can use it anywhere i love it! Opened mine a few weeks back.
An extra point. If you have a idthat you think wouldn't be taken.
Just flash the visa to back it up. Works for me now!
If you have a regular income you can get a cheque book. I ask about the 3 in 1 card. My bank manager has put the application through and said i should keep my fingers crossed. Though i am on 800-900 a month, i don't know if that makes a diffrence.
Cheers

I opened one of these accounts for my 16 year old son last week mainly so he could open a Monthly Saver. I was surprised but he has just recieved a VISA Debit card. He's a student with no income as well0

As I have explained it is a control card. He can only spend what is available on his account.
Should he attempt to spend more the transaction will be declined.0 -
my son thought he had cancelled an online game, the site took £18 out of his account although his balance was at £2, lloyds allowed this transaction so he was overdrawn for 5 days. They wrote to him "telling him off" but no charges.
In a way, as he had cancelled this site i wish lloyds had declined the payment, but i suppose this could have been useful for other situaltions.
But i was surprised as he`s 17 they allowed him to go overdrawn0
