Consider this - when you receive JSA in most cases you are also eligible for housing benefit and council tax benefit, along with other help. Who can afford rent, bills, car/ public transport, and other costs on minimum wage with no other help?? So in actual fact, you are far, far, FAR worse off in a minimum wage job than you are on benefits. Hence the cycle.
This is interesting.
I've never been on the dole. Is that how it works?
Are people who are on JSA and have their rent etc payed for them people who were paying for it themselves and then lost their jobs?
Or do people live with their parents for example, and then go on JSA and then, because they are on JSA, tell the jobcentre to find them a council flat to live and have their bills paid?
Or do they go on JSA and then go and rent a private place and somehow get the governement to pay for that? How could they afford a deposit?
(sorry for all the questions but im quite ignorant to this sort of stuff)0 -

And, just to educate you a little, it is NOT ok to live off taxpayers when you could earn your way.
Then JSA, plus all forms of benefit would not exist
Bankers need telling then lol
On a serious note, the job market is screwed so...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

You have missed the fact that you may still be eligible for LHA, CTB, WTC etc whilst in work ... but don't let that get in the way of your 'it's ok to be a dole bludger' argument.
Gone ... or have I?0 -

It's not worth your breath talking to them.
I generally find it extremely hard to bear our current government. But the one thing that they have cracked that others haven't is the fact that it is not OK to live off the backs of others. Now if only we could find a government who could get that idea right we could deal with the scroungers and the bankers et al. I don't see those in power doing a thing about the bankers - but it looks like the other end of spectrum may be facing time when working will seem like a great idea, even for NMW. If there is one. And if there are any jobs.0 -
Your only expected to travel one hour and a half door to door...0

I understand your reaosns for not wanting that job, it canbe hard to travel alot for the same money as you get for staying at home.
What you do not get at home is the exp, which makes it easier to find another job, maybe more local and better paid. Thats the way the Job centre would view it.
I do think they will treat you the same as evryine and think you should give it ago. Sorry i do not have an answer for your excuse.
I travel 3 hours a day stuck on Motorways for a salary that just pays the bills. I could just go bankrupt and have benefits, but I dont want to be sat at home. I enjoy getting to work - you may find you like the people and the job, and maybe after a short period you could get a transfer closer.
See if there is a bigger picture and alternatives in the interview.
wow i never knew it was that easy....gosh why o why did i wait until i was so deep in debt before deciding too go bankrupt.
I know its probably just an off the cuff remark but believe me there's nothing easy about going bankrupt or the !!!! you live with whilst bankrupt.;)0 -

He'd rather sit it out and live off the tax payer.
Its not good the op is on benefits, but once you come off its a nightmare-ive taken a furture for jobs fund job, 25 hours, i lost housing benfit and my benefits- when you take in to travel, im just about even...Its called the benefit trap...0 -

Surely you'd be much much worse off now after getting a job??
Before you had your rent paid for you and benefit money.
Now you pay your own rent, no benefit money, and only work 25 hours per week? How are you 'just about even'?
Curious.
