I recently was given by a friend for past debts £9880 this will take my savings to about £15680 from just below £6000. This means i am now only liable for only a little from benefits as i am currently on IB HB and IS. What i wish to know is who do i contact to get a change of benefits for the three benefits (meaning can i do this all at one office for all HC or Job Centres IS area or both ?) and will they ask from where the money came from if i just say from a friend will they require evidence of any sort. Thankyou for your help.

Tell them both, in writing with proof in the form of a letter from the friend and bank statements. However you should have declared this money was owed to you when you first claimed, *(there's a question on the claim form ) so they may query why you didn't - unless you did and they decided to ignore the money?0 -
You *might* only need to tell IS, but it would be best to tell the council too, for the HB award.
IB will not be affected as it is not means tested (not for capital anyway).
Your IS would be reduced, and if it stops altogether, you would then need to make a new claim for HB/CTB purposes.0
