HPI Finance outstanding, how do I find out who to and how much?
Hi,
As per the title. Looking at buying a vehicle with a siezed engine as I have access to an accident damaged vehicle that I can use for a donor engine. Done a "mycarcheck" hpi check and it has come back that there is outstanding finance on the vehicle. What do i do now. I haven't approached the (private) seller yet and was hoping to be armed with the information of the finance co and the amount O/S first, or maybe (and heres what I'm hoping) the finance has been cleare and just not removed yet.
Thanks in advance for any help

Pay and do a propper HPi check and it will tell you who the Finance is with. Complete with a reference number and how long it was for.0

Thanks Harvey,
I didn't know there was a difference in HPI checks. I just threw HPI check in google and this one came up cheapest and I've used it before and found it to be accurate in describing cat c and d etc.
Do you have a link for the "proper" HPI and the cheapest I can get it for. Thanks again in advance.0 -
Well this is who we use...

I'm sure there will be people out there that have discount codes etc...0 -
Thanks,
I ended up using the autocheck, experian one. For the multiple search it works out ok actually about a fiver a go.
The car ows money to mobile money aka logbook loans,,,,,, phoned them and they say it is a current debt and more than the purchase price.
I spoke to the seller not mentioning this and he claimed it was free from finance.
So.. waiting on the guy from logbook loans to ring me back once he has spoken with the seller......
Will keep you updated..0 -
What was the date of the loan when it was applied to the car? It could be before the current owner got it and they didnt know about it. Or, hes got a logbook loan on it knoing that the car has a seized engine so when they come to repo it they will have fun and games lol0

I wonder how many data protection laws they broke telling you that information?
Cheap data checks are just not worth the money.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Would'nt have thought they broke any? Just confirmed that even if the seller used all the asking price there would still be a debt.
Anyway, I have a plan to sort it, will update when I have the car...0 -

Dont think any DP laws have been broken?0 -
They discussed a loan/finance agreement with a 3rd party.
Imagine your neighbour being nosey and doing a HPI on your
car to see how much debt you are in. Imagine how you would feel if they gave
them the figures of your agreement.
Mind you, Thats not as bad as swinton sending me someone's insurance paperwork.
Complete with bank details and phone numbers, Work numbers etc.
They were not amused when i phoned them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
They wouldnt confirm the account holders name, address, age, dob etc. All they did was confirm that they hold an interest in vehicle registration XXXXXXX as the HPI shown up and when asked if the purchase price would clear it I was advised it wouldnt but again they couldnt be more precise. I honestly cant see how any DP laws have been breached here. And having spoken to the vendor he feels the same. Your Swinton scenario is a completely different ball game though...0
