The breakdown (!) of the figures are rather telling (ergo not reported by the BBC), from the FT:
Sales to fleets, which cut back sharply on vehicle orders a year ago, were 6.7 per cent higher in September.

However, sales to private buyers – the main beneficiaries of scrappage – were 19 per cent lower than a year ago, the SMMT said.

So like for like (no incentive) sales are increasing.

LOL. So we are supposed to ignore the scrappage scheme now, and instead, say there were actually more sales.

We never had to ignore the scrappage scheme when sales were up?

Either way, whichever way it's spun, sales are falling.

Can I hear someone changing a record from last year?
    I
But this isn't so much what I was getting at. My point was, we seem to be as a nation, cheering on this recovery, however, the stimulus, i.e. scrappage scheme, BOE rates, QE, has had possibly the biggest part in this recovery. It's not in the slightest bit natural.

You were saying they were not natural last year.
Take out what you class as "not natural" and they are up.

Do remember old posts when changing stance.

I wasn't trying to say sales were falling though was I. I was just saying it wasn't natural sales....which is the point you are trying to make now to state sales have actually risen.

    I'm not changing any stance.

You were saying they would not be where they were and rising without the stimulus!!!

So you now say comparing sales when the stimulus was in place to when it is not is fine now.
You also said it would mean people brought forward sales.

So if you thought the stimulus distorts the market would you not compare sales of cars which were not based on the scrappage scheme to judge if how you call it "natural" sales had increased??

You cant say it is not natural on year then use it to compare what you would class as a "natural year" unless you compare the same type of sales.

They wouldn't have got where they are without the stimulus.

But there did go where they are. So you can't ignore that and say they are actually rising. I never compared sales or stated they were falling when they were rising. Simply said it wouldn't have happened without it. You are confusing yourself.

You will never ever know what real sales would have been without scrappage, because there is no way you can get the data, cus we did have scrappage.

Carry on spinning if you like.

I am not spinning anything it is in the article what you linked. Sales outside the scrappage scheme are up on the same time last year.

Why not pull up mr Mummble up also?

I bought a car on Saturday, so don't blame me if October has poor figures as well.
