Redundancy and Benefits

I too find myself in the position of being redundant at the end of the month, and although I've had advance notice of it, I have to admit to having had my head in the sand.
I've worked pretty much my entire life and I've only ever had two dole payments when I was around 19 - I have no idea what benefits I would be entitled to, how I go about claiming and how I would even begin to start investigating this.
Just want to add that this isn't a "IVE WORKED ALL MY LIFE AND NOW I WANT WHAT IM ENTITLED TO" question !!! I want to see benefits as a last / worst case solution, just in case I have zero success and the savings we've put aside for this type of situation start to run out.
And benefits are only one of the questions I have - are there any government websites that detail back to work schemes / training incentives. I really don't know where to start looking or where to dive in? Basically any sort of guidance. ?!?!!

I would recommend you start by having a look at http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/index.htm website. There's loads of info about what you're entitled to and how to go about claiming it.
Good luck0
