Can I install Norton internet security on 2 computers?

Hi,

I have a copy of norton internet security 2010 that I got free with a laptop. It says its for one pc.

Would it be possible to install it on another of my computer or will the activation not work with the second computer a desktop?

As above.

Obviously you can install it but when it contacts the LiveUpdate server it will find that it is a duplicate, and you won't get any downloads of virus patterns. This rather destroys the purpose of an antivirus program.

Microsoft Security Essentials is free, and surprisingly well-regarded.

Personally I wouldn't install Norton on even one computer, licence or no licence.

Thanks very much for replies. So what happens if say I have to format the computer that Norton's on and have to reinstall Norton again, will the present key for Norton not work and I have to contact Norton support for a new key?

When activation happens on the present laptop does it take a snapshot of certain hardware components so that indefinately Norton is linked to the computer and it is even impssible to remove it from one computer and reinstall on another?

just wondering how Norton does this one licence thingy, not too bothered as usually I am a free Avg person.

I have norton 2011 internet security on my computer and i can honestly say its fantastic,better than kaspersky by far.
Pc has speeded up so much i cant believe it.This new Norton security suite is the best security you will ever get for your computer.Dont listen to the so called teck experts on this forum,they are clearly living in the past.Just google any security review and see for yourself. You can update from 2010 internet security to 2011 version free of charge. Hope this helps.

Download Avast. It's free, reliable and updates automatically. Miles better than Norton or any that you pay for.

If you're really clever you can even find a copy of the Avast Pro for free, but that isn't really necessary unless you're the sort of person who likes getting free stuff that should cost money just because you can..

Anyways, yeah, get Avast, don't use Norton; it's crap.

well I was able to reinstall and activate norton on the same pc but after I upgraded via clean install to win7, so you should be fine.

but as others have said it is only one licence so will only work on ONE pc at a time. simply put just use microsoft security essentials it is free and independant tests have shown that it is easily as good as paid antivirus. also did I say it's free!!

Hi you can normally put norton on 3 computers.

I like Martin's site but find the layout very confusing. And you can spend so much time looking at free antivvirus this/spyware that. It also is a bit ingenuous when it says to can pay £50 per year for something like Norton - yes you can, but if you shop around it's like everything else. I've been looking for new security software and found WEBROOT(3 user) £18.99, Kaspersky (1 user) Norton 2010 (3 user) 22.49 and these programs include everythinbg, including Phishing so I think are good value

lol, I do find the lunatics who pop up from time to time with the line ""Don't listen to the experts.....do this!!"" fairly amusing

Anyway Norton has a history of being a complete dog of an antivirus program but has started to improve markedly in the last year..... It is reliable but not really anything special.

Perhaps tying the above opinions together a sensible suggestion would be put norton on one of the machines and one of the other just as reliable free offerings on the other (Avira, Avast or MSE). You then have the advantage of if ever you get a virus one of them misses, because you have two DIFFERENT anti virus programs you're stand a good chance of picking it up on the other..... diversity + redundancy = good practice
