    Hi

I had my first root canal appointment today where he cleaned it and put temp filling it, the next appointment they could give me was four weeks away, will it be ok that long. He seemed to think it would.

    Thanks
  • Why do you think that random people on the internet will tell you differently to your dentist who probably does several of these treatments each day?

I don't know just to reassure me I suppose, I have been in so much pain and been so worried about having the procedure I just wanted a bit of reassurance that's all. Sorry:(

I just wanted to drop some words of reassurance for people who are worried about upcoming root canals.

I have always been scared of the dentist but when a nerve in my tooth died and I had to suffer the pain that is associated with that along with an abscess, the root canal to fix it was a breeze!

I felt no pain when I had my root canal done, from first apointment to final fill. My dentist was great and I suggest that you see a dentist you trust where possible and talk to them throughout - if it hurts tell them, if you are scared tell them.

The pain of not getting you teeth treated is 100 times worse than anything the dentist can inflict on you! My tooth caused my whole face to swell so I could hardly speak and had to take some very strong painkillers to cope. I ended up having antibitics by an IV drip. The root canal was like a gentle scratch in comparison. Don't worry and stop reading horror stories on the internet!

Don't worry about the next step - it's not painful it's just long and feels a bit funny because someone is so 'in' your mouth! I waited 2 weeks between having the temp filling in and the perm filling but for some of that time I had no filling to let it drain (due to the nature of the abscess). My tooth was fine during all this time and I am so glad I don't have the pain anymore!

It should be fine, the temporary filling will prevent any food/ bacteria getting into the tooth.

Yes, on a two part root cannal filling there can be a maximum of up to 3 months between the two appointments. Either way the dentist will wash out the bugs at the second appointment again.- so don't worry
:money: Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to everyone who has helped.
  • Hello there - I`m looking for a bit of advice and hopefully some reassurance!
My daughter 21 has had to have root canal work today. We were shocked her teeth look fine and she has never had a filling in her life. Anyway they have done the deep drilling, applied a treatment and put a temporary filling over it. She has antibiotics.
We fly to the USA in 10 days and has another appointment before then. Should we ask for more antibiotics just in case? Anything else we should be wary of.
Fantastic service from the NHS - phoned at 10am for an appointment - was seen at 3pm.
  • I've recently had root canal treatment which is not settling. I've had the problem tooth cleaned out three times and packed with antibiotics but the tooth is still uncomfortable. Now the tooth beside this is sore having had the filling replaced (Tuesday) and this is now very sore to chew on. This was fine before any of this treatment started. The tooth beside this is also getting uncomfortable - best description is that they feel that they are burning. I'm starting to lose faith in my dentist as things seem to be going from bad to worse. Does anyone have any helpful advice. I'm pretty dentist phobic so this is really upsetting me.

Please be kind as it's my first posting.
    Thanks

Ive had bad teeth issues for the past 4 yrs all caused by various abscess's. In fact Ive had 14 teeth taken out:eek:. A few weeks ago I had real bad pain in one of my teeth, yet again full blown out abscess appeared and back to square one! nights of non sleep and a face that looked like I was storing nuts for winter!.

I bit the bullet called the nhs help line and got an appointment, the dentist drilled a hole in the tooth (is this normal) to allow it to drain...... 2 weeks later Ive another abscess and really sharp pain, the tooth feels like its higher than the rest when I eat (if that makes sence).

My appointment for the root canal is'nt till January 15!

When Ive had these abscess nasties before they just remove the tooth at a local hospital but this time the dentist wont to save it and root canal it.

Now I have a few Q's if someone could answer me
    1. This sharp pain I was told is the nerve dying is that true?
    2. Any help on things I can do to help the pain?
    3. Does this root canal really stop the pain/fix the abscess?
