It's impossible to say without seeing you - but I would try and get to see a dentist again if it's that bad.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • I have found when I had root canel done I was in a lot more pain afterwards, lucky for me it was a back tooth I had the tooth out, and there was no more pain, no way ever again would I have root canel !

By the way I hope your pain goes away soon, its an awful pain toothache, one of the worse things I can imagine

Mine is a back tooth as well, i wish they had just pulled it out.

Will go up to the hospital tonight and see what they say.
Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

  • I was in pain for weeks with them saying it would soon be okay and giving me antibiotics saying it had an infection, it affected everything I did I was just laying on the sofa drugged up to the eyeballs on painkillers, I must have been overdosing so bad, but the pain in unbearable !!

But the relief is instant when they pulled the tooth out, I made them pull it out in the end, I was in the dentist literally bawling my eyes out, I can't remember how many injections in put in my gums but he said he had to put a lot more than normal, prob because I had taken so many painkillers the injections weren't having any effects.

Good luck, I hope they take it out for you, you will feel so much better, well thats just going from my experiececs

I was never given any antibiotics eventho he said there was an infection and that was why i needed root canal. He didn't give any painkillers or even say not to eat at that side of my mouth.

I was just told he'd see me in 3 mouths.

  • Oh dear that doesn't sound right, cause my dentist wouldn't do any treatment until the infection had cleared up, this is why you end up suffering so much waiting for them to do something and they just end up pulling the tooth out, why they don't just do that in the first place I don't know, Im not the only one this has happened to Ive had a few friends who've had exactly the same !

I had one done in the begining of the year and he wouldn't go near my tooth (to do the root canal) until the infection was gone because if there is an infection and he tried to clean all the infection and missed a wee bit...that can be bad news. Not saying that is what happened in your case. it could also be that your nerve is exposed some how...may sound silly but go outside into the cold air and suck in a deep breath..like a backwards whistle..can you feel more pain when you do that?

the best thing for toothpain IF he didn't give you anything is Ibuprofen. It chills out the throbbing which I'm sure is what you have. I know what did hurt longer was the area around my gum..the entrance points of where the needles went in...ACK!

    I WISH YOU LUCK THOUGH!

I believe that sometimes if there's a lot of infection then the anaesthetic won't be as effective, so either doing the root canal or extracting the tooth would be too painful.

It doesn't seem to be any more painful with the cold air, it just stay's the same. I had gum disease before he done the root canal and he even said it had improved but was still there. I had been using some mouth wash stuff to help get rid off it.

I'm taking Nurofen and paracetamol, both aren't even touching the pain. Spent most of last night awake because it was so painful.

I have had two root canals without anesthetic and there was no pain and none afterwards, just uncomfortable.

I think you need to go back to the dentist asap, dont leave it any longer.
    Good Luck.
