is cracked render covered by buildings ins.

i have recently noticed a few cracks on the sides of our house.. This will no doubt form nice damp patches over the pending winter....is this covered by my insurance ? if so would they patch it or cover the cost to take off and replace?

    this depends on the cause, if the render is "boss" (hollow sound when you tap it),your insurance company will render it( scuse the pun) as wear and tear, as when this takes effect the water due to rain seaps into the crack and during the winter months the water freezes and swells,this happens over a period of time and the frost begins to push the render from the brickwork.
    i've saw many many houses like this and never had anyone have the good fortune to have the insurance cough up.

    The damage will have to have been caused by an insured peril. If it is just "settlement" cracks or as the other poster described then the answer is probably no. However if is something more serious such as subsidence, and you have cover for subsidence under the policy then you may have cover. Best bet is to read through your policy and see what it says.
